Future-Ready, Life-Long Learners
With the rapid advancement of technology and globalisation, the world economy will become more complex and competitive. New disciplines of knowledge are being created and jobs no longer have clear boundaries. Our children need to increase their awareness and knowledge of world issues, and develop the skills and abilities to learn continuously and manage complex situations to be ready for the future. Punggol Green Primary School believes that the acquisition of the right Attitude, 21st Century Skills and Knowledge of a Life-Long Learner is what will ensure our children to be Future-Ready.
The ASK of Future-Ready, Life-Long Learners
Attitude is defined as a learned predisposition to respond in a consistently favourable or unfavourable manner with respect to a given idea, object, person, or situation. Attitude influences an individual's choice of action, and responses to challenges and incentives. Our experiences, beliefs and values determine our attitude. We believe that through instilling R3ICH core values and developing the mindset of excellence among our children; we will be able to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
With the right attitude, our children will still require skills to maintain the competitive edge in a globalised future. Our society is becoming increasingly cosmopolitan and our children will need a broader worldview and the ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, with different ideas and perspectives. They need to be able to think critically and make sound decisions. Importantly, they should be able to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. Therefore, we believe that incorporating 21st Century Skills such as social-emotional competencies, civic literacy, environmental literacy, critical and inventive thinking, information and communication skills in our curriculum and programmes is instrumental to our children’s success in future.
Knowledge is the foundation for the success of our children. Even with the right attitude and skills, our children still need to draw on their knowledge to succeed. Our children need both ‘Timeless” and “Timely” knowledge to thrive in future. “Timeless” knowledge are core concepts and ‘big ideas’ that are built into the main curriculum while the ‘Timely” knowledge is incorporated to ensure our children’s responsiveness to global trends and issues.
“Nurture a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” The formative years of a child is the time to develop the ASK of a Life-Long Learner. Inculcate the right Attitude, develop the essential Skills and provide ‘Timeless and Timely” Knowledge for our children and they will be Future-Ready.
